Structural bioinformatics helps scientists analyse and predict the three-dimensional (3-D) structure of large biological modules such as proteins and nucleic acids. Biologists are very interested in this field because large modules conduct most of a cell’s functions—and they are only able to perform these functions by assuming a specific 3-D shape.
